The e-Vignette – the state-of-the-art successor of the Eurovignette

The Eurovignette has been upgraded. -  With effect from 01 October 2008, the current paper Eurovignette, which is valid in the Treaty States (Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Denmark and Sweden) will be replaced by a new electronic system: the e-vignette.

Contrary to the paper vignette, all e-vignette data referring to a specific vehicle are available in a data record stored in the database of the corresponding motorway company and may be recalled. Thus, in the future, the driver will not have to use a paper document.

Validity of the currently used Eurovignette
The paper Eurovignette may be obtained until 30 September 2008. The applicable validity period is shown on the Eurovignette. Consequently, an annual vignette bought in August 2008 will be valid until August 2009.

What has changed?
If a driver buys an e-Vignette at a point of sale, he will no longer receive the usual Eurovignette document, but – with effect from 01 October 2008 – a receipt confirming the payment of the e-Vignette. The e-Vignette data will be saved in a centrally operated database of the motorway company and may be recalled for control purpose.

Period of validity of the e-Vignette
The new e-Vignette may – as usual – be obtained for periods of validity from one day to one year.

Ordering via UTA
The procedure remains unchanged: You order the Vignette as usual and UTA will automatically book the correct Vignette for you (Eurovignette or e-Vignette – independent of the beginning of the validity period).

Your advantages with UTA:

  • One-stop – fast and easy – now electronically, no longer in writing (paper)!

  • The e-Vignette may be obtained en-route - comfortably by means of the UTA Card - at all familiar points of sale in the Treaty States (Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Sweden, Denmark) and in most neighbouring countries.

  • Order your Vignette fast and easily online by using this order form.

  • Even if a UTA customer does not dispose of a UTA Card for a specific vehicle, it is possible to order the e-Vignette in a fast and easy way via UTA.

  • The e-Vignette is an electronic data record, which is fraud and forgery-proof and, thus, cannot get lost or stolen.

  • Transactions are included in your UTA Invoice.

Checking Vignette bookings
In the future, drivers are not required to dispose of paper documents, since the checking of the correct Vignette booking will be effected electronically by the controller. Instead, the licence plate number is compared with the Vignette data stored in the motorway company’s database. It is not necessary to stop the vehicle and no time is lost due to possible controls.
