The new toll fees will be determined based on the distance driven, number of axles, emissions class and region.
The tariffs charged in Brussels will be higher than in the rest of Belgium, with only the highway fees in Brussels set to correspond with those charged in Flanders and Wallonia. In general, the Belgian government is free to decide which roads to toll, meaning we may see even more stretches of road begin tolled in the future than the highways and major roads currently covered by the compulsory Vignette motorway tax. Detailed information about the road network subject to tolls has yet to be made public.
