Register for the electronic toll system in Poland

With effect from July 2011, the electronic toll system viaTOLL will be implemented in Poland for vehicles > 3.5 tons. For these vehicle categories and for buses/coaches (independent of their gross weight) with more than nine seats (including driver seat) an On Board Unit must be used for settlement of tolls.

These vehicles must be equipped with a toll device (viaBOX) when using motorways, express highways and/or federal highways which are subject to tolls. Toll data capture is based on a system connecting the toll device with the toll bridges via microwave technology.

Tolls can be settled by applying either the post-pay or the pre-pay procedure:

The post-pay procedure is very easy and convenient:  the viaBOX must be collected at a Distribution Point in Poland. Tolls are subsequently settled via UTA. Toll transactions invoiced will, as usual, be shown as an individual item in your UTA invoicing documents.

The pre-pay procedure is an account in credit, and the viaBOX must be collected at a Distribution Point in Poland, where it can be topped up with an individual amount (minimum amount: 120 PLN, approx. 30 Euro), which then can be spent on tolls little by little.

In both cases, the Polish toll company viaTOLL requests a deposit in the amount of approx. 30 Euro (120 PLN) per viaBOX registered which can be settled via UTA.
