Tolls are compulsory in Belgium for goods vehicles with a gross weight of more than 3.5 tonnes. This toll is levied in the Viapass electronic system.
All vehicles subject to tolls must be equipped with an On Board Unit (OBU) and registered with the toll operator.
The new toll fees will be determined based on the distance driven, number of axles, emissions class and region.
The tariffs charged in Brussels are higher than in the rest of Belgium, with only the highway fees in Brussels set to correspond with those charged in Flanders and Wallonia. In general, the Belgian government is free to decide which roads to toll, meaning we may see even more stretches of road begin tolled in the future than the highways and major roads currently covered by the compulsory Vignette motorway tax. Please find below detailed information about the road network subject to tolls.
As the European Union is taking the market towards a centralised toll solution (EETS-Provider), UTA will provide its customers with a comprehensive EETS solution this year.
