Toll country Belgium
Through Belgium with UTA!
Belgium is a highly frequented transit country with a well-developed road network. On 1 April 2016, the three regions of Wallonia, Flanders and Brussels launched the Viapass toll system, which means that HGVs with a total towing weight of over 3.5 t have to pay toll on motorways, expressways and some local roads. The new electronic system replaced the Eurovignette in Belgium. At the beginning of 2018, the toll fee was extended to include class N1/BC mini semi-trailer trucks.
In addition to the country-wide toll, using the Liefkenshoektunnel also incurs a fee.
The tunnel operator decides who has to pay toll and how the fee is calculated.

This is how the country-wide toll is collected
The Viapass toll system is an electronic system with GNSS technology. The toll fees are calculated by tracking the on-board unit and based on the underlying pricing/fee model. Factors used to work out the fees include the total weight and emission class of the vehicle in question. The fees also vary by region in Belgium.
Here you can find an overview of the rates in the different regions of Belgium:
There are three different control systems:
- Stationary devices, e.g. at toll bridges
- Flexible devices, e.g. by the side of the road
- Mobile devices on vehicles
Please note: You are liable to pay big fines in Belgium if you do not pay the toll fee. Make sure that the your on-board unit in your HGV is in perfect working order and always use the OBU accessories!
As a UTA customer, you can find more detailed information on how to avoid fines in the UTA Exclusive Section.
For more information about the toll solutions, please also consult the relevant pages of the on-board units!
